Take a walk through the Virginia Native Plant Garden and Wildflower Meadow discovering ways to create natural landscape designs for meadows, woods and water.

Let Marcus be your guide to the Garden as fall colors provide a majestic vibrant display. Learn to ID trees and shrubs during this season. Dress for the weather and enjoy some fresh air!

HOW SOIL AFFECTS HERBS • January 24

Melissa Butler, Curator of Herbaceous Plants

Learn how to properly amend your soil for growing different types of herbs to really make them thrive. Melissa will focus on how to produce bumper crops of herbs then offer clever suggestions on what to do with your bounty.

INTRODUCTION TO LANDSCAPING

Introduction to Landscaping class

January 29 – February 26

Thursdays • 7-9:30PM (5-week Session)    

Develop your ideas for fall planting in this five-night course. Senior Gardener Linda Saunders and Director of Horticulture and long-time Landscape Designer Brian O’Neil, VSLD, introduce students to the basic principles of landscape design. Participants will work on plans for their own home hardscapes, not on specific plant selection. This course is best suited for homeowners who are starting with new home sites or plan to make extensive design changes to their property. Fee includes drafting materials & reference book. (1.25 CEU credit hours)

Cost: $150 ($125 for NBG Members)

BEST PLANTS OF HAMPTON ROADS and INTRODUCTION TO LANDSCAPE DESIGN are great companion courses. One lets you discover the plants you must have and the other lets you plan where to plant them.

 

BEST PLANTS OF HAMPTON ROADS  

Thursdays (4-week session)                                                                             

October 30 & November 6, 13, 20 • 7-9PM

Develop your ideas just in time for fall planting with Director of Horticulture Brain O’Neil. This four-week course takes an in-depth look at the best performing plants for this area, including the culture, care and companions of these “must-have” plants.

Each participant will receive a comprehensive plant list. (.8 CEU credit hours)

Cost: $85 ($55for NBG Members)

GARDEN SHOWCASE - Brian’s Botanical Bits                                    

Friday • November 14 • 1-3PM

Enjoy a personal tour of the Garden with Director of Horticulture Brian O’Neil. During this informative afternoon stroll, you will experience the splendors of Fall in the Garden.   Brian will highlight some of the best plants for fall color, explaining ways to incorporate them into your garden.

Cost: $18 ($12 for NBG Members)
