TREE GIVEAWAY

City of Norfolk Celebrates ARBOR DAY at Norfolk Botanical Garden

Saturday • October 4 • 9AM -2PM

A variety of tree seedlings (ideal for the urban landscape) will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Master Gardeners will be available to answering tree-planting questions.

Session B:  November 7; Moon Waxing Gibbous, Jupiter, Andromeda Galaxy, Uranus

Session C: January 2; CANCELLED

Come out for an evening under the stars & join the Back Bay Astronomers as they take us on a tour of the solar system. After a brief indoor presentation, step outside and observe the skies above us through high-powered telescopes. (Involves some walking.)

Learn to be a plant detective and diagnose plant problems with Lynette Swanson, Virginia Cooperative Extension Agent of Norfolk. Find out what might be ailing your plants and how to remedy the situation before it becomes a homicide case. This popular class fills early - don’t wait to register!

Join author Lawrence Griffith, Curator of Plants, Colonial Williamsburg on a pictorial journey as he discusses interesting finds in his research on annual and biennial flowers of Colonial Virginia. Then take a stroll through our recently renovated Hunter Savage Colonial Garden with Gardener Lucy Gerard. Lawrence will gladly sign copies of his brand new book Flowers and Herbs of Early America.

DON’T PRUNE THAT NOW! - Proper Pruning Techniques

Join Mike Andruczyk, Virginia Cooperative Extension Agent of Chesapeake, as he explains the ideal time to prune a variety plants. Learn how this plant expert recommends putting your garden to bed for the winter.

Want to know the "Why?" and "How?" to successful growing in your hobby greenhouse?  Tour our greenhouse with Vickie Pepper, Plant Propagator as she covers plants, pests, lighting, venting/cooling/heating and location, location, location. Then she'll bring things down to size for your backyard.

ORCHIDS IN THE HOME: EVERYDAY EASY

Tuesday • January 13 • 2-4PM

Have an orchid or wishing you did? Don’t deprive yourself any longer. Indulge! Anyone can enjoy the beauty of exotic orchids - the perfect blooming houseplant. Steve Urick, Greenhouse Conservator and Curator of the Kaplan Orchid Conservatory at Old Dominion University, will share everyday easy ways to display your orchids, dress them up as gifts and even use them for entertaining.
